If you’re coming to Loretto between now and September 21st, you’re in for a treat. Fifty-one Kentucky artists agreed and set out to create unique pieces inspired by our little bourbon in the first “Mark of Great Art” contest. All types of art are represented, including oils, watercolors, sculptures, wood, textile, metal, photography, video and jewelry. You can see the pieces, vote for your favorite and learn more about the contest online at TheMarkOfGreatArt.com.
The pieces will be displayed from through Sunday, September 21st at the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto. Outside of visiting our little piece of heaven, you can check out select pieces in the following cities on the following dates (We'll try to update you on exact gallery locations as soon as we have them nailed down.):
* Louisville – Wednesday, September 24th
* Lexington - Wednesday, October 1st
* San Francisco – Wednesday, October 1st
* Chicago – Wednesday, October 8th
* Seattle – Wednesday, October 15th
* New York – Wednesday, October 22nd
* Madrid – Wednesday, October 29th
* London – Wednesday, November 5th
Voting for your favorite pieces over at TheMarkOfGreatArt.com is pretty important for the artists. The votes will help determine cash prize winners. When the distillery presentation and competition is over, the pieces (there’s like 115 of them) will go around the country to be permanent display pieces in some of our favorite bars and restaurants.

I got an email since I'm an ambassador that there's a new Maker's Mark blog. I went ahead I created an LJ RSS feed for it. I thought some might be interested in friending it.makers_markbour

Maker's Mark = Love
A suprise Maker's Mark box awaited me today. They usually send pretty great stuff (other than the Maker's Mark Christmas cards last yr. That was just kind odd). It's a mini-shaker
! Also a pack of red Maker's Mark napkins and a receipe for "Bourbon Ball Drink."
No wonder I love MM so much. They take such good care of me. :)

Maker's Mark tour
We did the tour at Maker's Mark this past Monday. It was neat! I know that I'd read about them being a small operation, but I didn't really get a feel for HOW small until the tour. It was also cool to learn how they give & get from their local economy.
We got to see where the grains are crushed, where the brew ferments, see how it gets distilled, see where ALL of MM gets bottled, got to see the very old printing press that all the labels are printed on, etc... It was really neat!
We got to see barrels aging. Now, I thought that as an ambassador, you get your name on a barrel... as in burnt into a barrel. But no! There's like a plaque kinda thing that's just put on the top of a barrel that has like 6 names on it. But I'd say that was the only disappointment.
I got to dip a bottle. Which was fun. And it turned out kinda neat! There were air bubbles in my wax when it dried! I had hoped that buying the bottle there would've been cheaper, since it was direct-purchase n all, but it wasn't too much more expensive than getting it at Sam's Club.
We got a new camera just before the trip, and due to a malfunction, I'm afraid that all my pics were probably exposed, but if they do, by some miracle, turn out, I'll post them if anyone's interested.

I'm a big fan of Maker's Mark. We're probably going on a vacation (Weeee!) in a couple of wks. We'll be near the distillary, so I think we're going to stop by for a tour! The website says you even get to dip your own bottle, so that'll be neat. (Though I assume that means you dip the end in wax, not that you get to fill it w/booze to take home...)
Just thought I'd share. :) Current Mood: anxious

Just found this community. Seems like it's been pretty dead. Bummer.
I've just recently discovered Maker's Mark, and now it is pretty much the ONLY bourbon I'll drink straight. And I won't use it in a mixed drink... too much of a waste of fine taste.
Someone needs to make a "Maker's Mark is Love" colorbar or something.
ETA: Found colorbars
! Yay! Current Mood: thankful
